St. Vincent de Paul Society
The St. Michael’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul is part of a worldwide group founded in Paris in the late 1800s. There are over 700,000 men and women as members around the world. The objective is simply to bear witness to Christ and his Church and to help others in need.
We are active in several commissions to help the needy in the local area. Some of our works include:
Semi-annual clothing drives at St. Michael’s. All donations of clothing help fund the Springfield Community Survival Center, thus helping those in need in the local and surrounding Springfield area.
In addition we help the elderly in East Longmeadow by supporting the Meals on Wheels program.
We assist a local Free Health Clinic get medical attention to those with little or no health insurance.
A long established organization known as the Springfield Rescue Mission receives our support during the holidays to help provide needed emergency shelter and rehabilitation programs including food and clothing to the homeless.
We also feed the hungry by supplying and preparing meals at the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen and The Friends of the Homeless Shelter every month.
We are proud to support the efforts of our pastoral staff: Sr. Mary, Sr. Betty and Fr. Wayne. Their good works include ministering to families and individuals facing all types of hardships and tragedies.
The members of St. Vincent de Paul (known as “Vincentians”) are proud to be part of an organization focused on helping our local parishioners and neighbors. It’s what Jesus wanted us to do!
