May 3, 2014
My greeting and well wishes to you!
June 2014 marks the fortieth (40th) year of my ministry as a Catholic priest and my twelfth (12th) year as your pastor.
There was a thought in place to have a party and parish gathering in recognition of this occasion. I asked that such thoughts and plans be set aside and I am grateful that my wish was respected.
You may remember my publicly shepherding the major concerns of many parishioners regarding the sad circumstance and issues within the institutional church made known in 2002. Few realize that I reported here on May 3, 2002 quietly and earnestly praying only for our collective well-being as a Christian Catholic Community. To this moment, I hope and personally believe that prayer has to some extent been realized. For this I am grateful to God!
This communication is to share with you that effective June 30, 2014, I am retiring as your pastor and as an active priest within the Church of Springfield.
It is my fond hope that you will please remember me as a priest who strove to celebrate each mass with prayerful reverence. As a Christian person, I truly labored to prepare and deliver sermons that might be applicable and helpful in our Christian journey. Please remember my sincere efforts at each and every Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage ceremony and Funeral service; and, my counseling efforts to comfort, to challenge and to encourage.
As I take my leave I pray that this community will continue to be welcoming to all; and, truly be a parish of the heart and mind of Christ and the Gospel.
