St. Elizabeth Parish in Ludlow will hold its 6th annual “Celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage” Liturgy and Dinner-Dance on Saturday, April 9, 2016. The special liturgy will be celebrated at the regular 4:00 PM Saturday evening Mass. A social, buffet dinner, and dance will follow next door at the Parish’s SJB Pastoral Center. The cost is $35.00 per couple with “group reservations” available for a table maximum of 10 people. Reservations and payments must be received at the rectory by no later than April 1, 2016. Mercy Hospice is in the process of coordinating a hospice volunteer training class, beginning in April. The class is held once a week for 8 weeks at their office. Mercy Hospice is located at Hillside of Providence, 2112 Riverdale Street, Suite 3, West Springfield, MA (the former Brightside campus). It is so important to have volunteers from our community to provide companionship and respite to our patients and families. Volunteers can serve as a quiet presence while a caregiver takes a break; they can keep vigil with a person at end of life; they can be a wonderful companion to someone in a skilled nursing facility, bringing a patient to activities within the center, or they can even volunteer to do office work here in our office. It is a wonderful way to learn about the services hospice can provide at such an important time in people’s lives. This year, they are also looking for other types of volunteers! They are interested in starting a pet therapy program and a hospice choir, and they are also looking for volunteers who may wish to sew quilts or teddy bears that have special meaning to their families. All of these services are such a blessing to their patients and their loved ones . Training is free, and each participant receives a Certificate of Completion at the end of the training session, allowing them to volunteer as a hospice volunteer anywhere in the state of Massachusetts. Once trained, they do not have any regulation on the number of hours a person volunteers – they welcome any time that your schedule allows. If you are interested in joining or offering your services to Mercy Hospice, please contact Sherri Langevin, at Mercy Hospice, 413-827- 4223 to reserve a seat in the class or to have questions answered.
